De-Stress Your Holidays

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…for some people, but for others the holiday season is filled with more stress than joy. This time of year is often littered with blown budgets, lack of sleep, social expectations, and packed schedules, all which can lead to an unhealthy amount of stress. This doesn’t have to be the case though, you can keep all the joy of the season without injecting any extra stress into it. Browse our de-stressing tips for the holidays, so that you can prepare yourself for everything that awaits you this coming holiday season! 1. Set yourself up with a reasonable schedule. You don’t need to say yes to everything. Commit to going to the social events which mean the most to you and will fit into a schedule you’re comfortable with. Many people often feel pressured to visit every family member and stop by every party, but this leads to burn out and an overwhelming feeling of stress which could easily be avoided simply by setting a reasonable schedule. 2. Forget perfection. Don’t hold ridiculously high or unattainable standards for yourself. The holidays will still be wonderful, even if not every meal is made from scratch or gifts aren’t impeccably wrapped. Instead of spending time agonizing over the littlest of details, step back and focus on what really matters. 3. Stay in the moment. Don’t spend every minute anticipating the next event and worrying about everything you will need to accomplish in-between now and then. Instead, take the time to truly enjoy every moment and appreciate what is occurring then. Do what you can to reasonably prepare ahead of time so that you can enjoy each occasion as they come. 4. Stick to your budget! Stressing about finances is never fun and it can be easily avoided by never deviating from your budget. While it may be tempting to do so, remember it isn’t worth the anxiety it will cause! If you find yourself spending too much, revert to using only set amounts of cash and make a set list of items you truly need before you enter the store. 5. Don’t abandon your healthy habits. Of course, this doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself, but if working out or meditating helps you relieve stress, be sure to keep those types of healthy activities in your schedule, even if it means less time spent shopping or at events. 6. Take a break! Even if it’s only for a few minutes, allow yourself time to breathe and relax. It’s alright to spend a day relaxing. Don’t feel guilty about spending the time to refresh yourself so that you will be able to enjoy the festivities later on! From your friends at wedü, we wish you, your family, and your friends the merriest holiday season!
